3D Art Week 01 (Unreal Simple Box Level)

 Goal:

To be able to create a level in Unreal Engine 4 simply using beveled cubes made in Maya. The objective is to be able to get familiar with the basic tools of both Maya and Unreal Engine 4, while getting basic understandings of materials, lighting, and scale.

Here, I started off by learning how to export the default mannequin from UE4 into Maya 2020. The mannequin is next to a 10 cm x 10 cm x 10 cm cube.
Additionally, I created a 182 cm x 182 cm cube to show off how the UE4 mannequin is roughly 2 meter tall.
Before importing into UE4, I modified the default Maya cube with beveled edges with softened edges to make it smooth as possible.
In UE4, I learned a better understanding of the material editor and the various basic nodes. I was able to understand the usage of using 1, 2, and 3 value parameters, which I have not previously known.
After some messing around with the basic color, missive map, and Fresnel, I was able to create the yellow outlined RGB cubes to show them off.

As for my assignment part, I was tasked in just creating any sort of level with only the beveled cubes. For me, I wanted to pay tribute to my favorite BLOCKBUSTER movie (my favorite film has to be Her if anyone cares), Avengers: Endgame, with the Iron Man gauntlet, Stark gauntlet, or Nano gauntlet, whichever name you want to go with. I also wanted to pay tribute to it being the last movie I watched that has Chadwick Boseman in it. It was sad to hear about the passing of such a great man, who wanted to justice for all and to be an inspiration for everyone, even though he was suffering with Colon cancer behind the scenes. To not have the whole world know and try to act normal is such a courageous thing to do that a lot of people would not fathom doing. In hindsight, making a gauntlet with only cubes was not as straightforward as I had expected. I think it'll require way more cubes. I want to come back to this in my free time just to make it look better, assignment aside. Regardless, Rest In Power, Mr. Boseman. I love you 3000.
